CRRF Media Fellowship Program: Cohort Coordinator – Application

POSITION: Cohort co-ordinator

POSITION TYPE: Temporary part time, 11-month contract: May 1, 2024 – March 31, 2025

LOCATION: Remote in Canada, must be legally eligible to work in Canada for the entire contract period

SALARY: 16 hours per week, $34.83/hr

The Program
The Canadian Race Relations Foundation’s Media Fellowships Program aims to support journalists, reporters, columnists and storytellers from First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities, Black and other racialized communities and/or religious minorities in journalism or creating media projects that support systemic change.

The program will support the hiring of a cohort of 9 fellows who are journalists, reporters, columnists, graduates, and storytellers from First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities, Black, Asian, and other racialized communities and religious minority groups. Once hired by funded media organizations, the cohort of Fellows funded through the Program will participate in networking and capacity-building sessions, training, etc.

CRRF is partnering with JHR to deliver training and support for Fellows involved in the Program. 

The job
The cohort co-ordinator will be the primary point of contact for fellows in the CRRF’s Media Fellowships Program. They will report to and be expected to maintain regular/weekly contact with the program manager. They will be responsible for:

  • Arranging, setting the agenda for, and hosting virtual weekly meetings with the fellows
  • Arranging for monthly guest trainers in collaboration with the program manager
  • Preparing and organizing all resources and material required by and resulting from the meetings
  • Participating in and administering monitoring and evaluation activities for the cohort
  • Other duties related to the co-ordination of the cohort as needed

We are looking for someone with an understanding of the challenges facing individuals from First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities, Black, Asian, and other racialized communities and religious minority groups in the Canadian news industry. APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:
These are some criteria that will be considered to result in a successful application.

Experience

  • Experience facilitating group discussions 
    • Especially discussions of the experiences of racialized individuals in professional spaces
    • Especially video calls and/or group chats
  • Familiarity with the Canadian news ecosystem
    • Experience in a newsroom would be a strong asset
  • Previous program coordination experience would be an asset
  • Fluency in French would be a strong asset

Skills

  • Problem solving in real time and in a collaborative manner
  • A deep commitment to anti-racist and anti-oppression practices
  • General willingness to meet people where they’re at
  • Ability to be responsive to the needs of participants in a virtual group discussion setting, including stimulating discussion, generating consensus, and just listening
  • Organization and document management/able to work in a filing system
  • Impeccable discretion and care for confidentiality 
  • Familiarity with setting up and hosting meetings on Zoom
